Song Demo
Unbelievable... more than six months have passed since my
last demo update. The song this time is titled "Friday Night At
The World." For years I had wanted to write a party/celebration
type of song without much luck. Not long after returning to CA
after the Bay Brothers two year Iowa stint at Hamilton's, I came up
with this month's featured tune. It was recorded on my trusty Fostex
four track in July 1987. I occasionally play this at gigs, mostly on
Fridays (how original). The instrumentation is two Guitars (both parts
using my old 1960 Guild), Electric Bass and el cheapo Yamaha Keyboard,
all of which are played by me. I programmed the drums on a Yamaha
RX-21 drum machine which was a lot quieter in an apartment that way.
On top of all that I added three vocal parts.

As always, enjoy and feel free to send comments you may have.
Here's the Lyrics: It's in Key of D if you're playing along!
Friday Night At The World
Chorus: Friday, night at the world
It's the night that everybody waited for
Come on, grab your girl
Now the week is over and it's time to soar
Verse 1: You say you're gonna party tonight
Get your friends together, gonna do it right
All week long you have been waitin' for this
There's no way to resist, anything we have missed
When the feelin' you got is so hot
- Repeat Chorus -
Verse 2. A quiet night for two might seem right
Together we can satisfy your appetite
Makes no difference just as long as you're here
'N you act so sincere, 'cause you want to be near
And you know that it's time to unwind
- Repeat Chorus -
- Solo -
Verse 3. Alone with two or three or four
Friday nights you gotta go for more
In two more days you can enjoy the bliss
It comes down to this, when it's hit or miss
Go 'til Monday morn or you're worn
Chorus: Friday, night at the world
It's the night that everybody waited for
Come on, grab your girl
Now the week is over and it's time to soar
(The week is over baby and it's time to soar) variation
Repeat Chorus four more times and out

About the Song Demos
As I told you before, I was hoping by mid-2005 to release a new CD of
originals. The basic tracks are all laid down, but unfortunately economics
are holding up it's release. Until then and probably after, I'll place a demo
recording of one of my songs here about once every 2-3 months. My ISP
only allows me 20 mb of space which means I can only do one song at a
time, but hey, they're free!! Once again I'll reiterate that a demo recording
isn't as near perfectly produced as a final recording. The intended purpose
of a demo is to sell the tune to song publishers, who are only interested in
the raw song, not the artist or it's production values. As such, the vocals are
generally way out in front, with the music buried somewhere underneath in
the mix. I have over 40 years worth of recorded demos. As time allows I've
been converting my original demos from reel to reel tapes, 45 RPM records,
acetate recordings and cassettes to MP3's so you computer types can
download them and put 'em on you iPod (or not!!)
About my Songwriting "Career"
For many years I've teased that I do dance music for a living to support my
writing habit. I think mostly I say it to cover up the brutal honesty of the fact.
Writing songs is the one thing that really excites me and gets my blood
flowing. Unfortunately for me, I've never had the same passion about the
business aspect of writing that I demonstrate in my solo act. Being on stage
and performing is my livilihood, which makes me attack the business side of
music voraciously. On the other hand, songwriting is about the only thing I do
musically just for me. To treat it as a business somehow takes a large portion
out of the pleasure I derive from it. That's not to say that I've never submitted
any songs. I'm published and have had a few semi-succesful forays as a
tunesmith (read, collected some royalties). As Francis Ford Coppola said
in "The Godfather," "This is the business we have chosen." Sometimes things
go great, sometimes they don't. The best you can do is to weather both
successes and disappointments with equal grace. Hope you enjoy.
