Some places that I visit now and again, with comments.
Obviously, I have eclectic tastes.
"Welcome to our store, browse through our products
to find that right gift for that special person in your life and if
do not see what you are looking for then e-mail me and I'll send you
a free world of products catalog where you will find over 3000 items
to choose from. So come on into www.roysgiftworld.com and look
around. Have a great day!"
Secondly I submit for your approval a compadre,
entertainer and kindred spirit that I worked with for many years,
George Pickard . I might add that he hasn't updated the site in quite
a some time:
Here you can visit the Friends
of George's Home Page
Next is a real favorite of mine:
Kay Koehler's Home Page THE MERMAID
TAVERN
Kay's page contains "watery wonders, sunny sands, mountain vistas and
much more...". It's where I like to go to relax and get away from it
all. One piece of forewarning... if you have "channel surfer"
mentality, wait until you have time for it to load. It's rich in
graphics and embedded midi, which all take time to load.
Next stop is:
Dean Friedman's Home
Page
Dean is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Making a living as a
musician myself, I find little time to listen to music, just for the
sake of my own pleasure. I'm usually too busy working on requested
midi files, or practicing new tunes. But on those rare occasions that
I do just sit back and enjoy, Dean is right up there on my personal
list. His song "Ariel" hit #26 on the charts back in '77, which is
about 175 spots higher than any of mine ever did!! I'm especially
fond of his "Well, Well, Said The Rocking Chair" album, but they're
all gems. Do yourself a favor and find a copy of one of his albums.
His songs aren't the kind I'd play at my usual gigs, but given the
right venue, I can do a pretty mean version of "Scratch and Bite".
BTW, he was into VR long before most of us knew what it was.
While I prefer
to play variety music, people have their set likes and dislikes. If
you're looking for a good country band in the SE Iowa area, you can't
do much better than Amarillo. Excellent musicians, great voices with over 20 years
together, a perfect combo. Stop by, tell 'em Bob sent you!!
If you visit here because you love
to dance you absolutely have to check iowadance.com. Anything you could possibly want to know about local
bands, clubs, schedules etc. is all at one convenient stop. Visit
them, you'll be glad you did!
"Are you a Turtle?." If you know
the correct response to this question you obviously are familiar with
the Fraternal Alliance of Respected Turtles (F.A.R.T). Sometime
around 1996-1997 John Treffeisen set up the Official
(as it gets) Turtles Homepage and if you
visit there you'll be treated to a definition of the Turtle, the
official Legend of the Turtle, the initiation passage and upon
completion, a (not so) official Turtle Membership Card.
My friends all know I smoked a pipe
for more than 30 years. I have since quit, but I am not a Nicotine
Nazi. Steve Beaty's Pipes Web
Page may be the most politically incorrect
page on my list, but hey... it is MY list!!
Michael Flatley is the star of Lord Of The
Dance. If you can get past the fact that
probably nowhere on planet Earth will you find anyone quite so full
of himself, he is one hell of a dancer and if you are into dance at
all, this is worth a visit.
OK, I believe it's mandatory to throw in a sports link. If I'm off on
a Sunday, most likely I'll be watching a Nextel Cup Race. When I
can't see it, the next best thing is to visit Nascar
Online. There you'll get all the results,
standings, new stories, interviews, etc.... right from the horse's
mouth.
If you're more cynically inclined a
visit to the Nascar Fans
Against Jeff Gordon page might lighten you
up.
Many of you know that I have been
homeschooling Sean since 10/97. If you just want some info, maybe the
idea appeals to you or you're just curious, one of the best places on
the net to learn from is the American
Homeschool Association. Another related
terrific site is Home Education
Magazine.
Do you have kids? When my son was
smaller he loved visiting Sharon, Lois & Bram's "Elephant Show"
web page. That has since evaported into cyberspace, but they still
run a site from their follow-up show, "Skinnamarink TV" and trust me,
you won't have to worry at all about it's content. It can be found
right here.
As Sean grew, his next favorite
show was about a little dog with a big imagination, Wishbone. Find
him at WorldWide
Wishbone.
Of couse, as he's grown up, his
tastes have too. Besides Tolkien and Harry Potter, he loves these
books from Lemony
Snicket.
Another strong kid's entry is The Dinosaur
Society. The name says it all, and if your
child is nuts about dinos, this is one great place.
Somewhere around 1995, Thomas
Kinkade became my favorite artist. I love his work, and wish I had
enough dinero to own a few originals. Since I don't, visiting
The
Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Light Home Page
will have to suffice.
Admission time. I (along with 20 or
so million other guys around my age) fell in love with Haley Mills in
the early 60's. I still carry a soft spot in my heart for her and
have found several tribute pages on the 'Net. One of the best I've
found was put together by Robert W. Ellis, simply called Bob’s Haley Mills
Page. He also has links to other Haley
Mills pages.
Want to find your old high
school buddies (or enemies for revenge!). Click here on the
Alumini.net to find them.
Have you ever wondered whatever
happend to, say Lulu, Bobby Sherman or the Dave Clark Five? Well
wonder no more as this extensive site will take you to your favorite
old artists web page. The Oldies
Music - Artists Web Sites from Ronald P.
Smith contains links to literally hundreds of artists.
Find that lyric from "Everybody's
Talkin' you can't seem to remember. It's right here on a site called
appropriately enough called Lyrics
World. This is the best lyrics site I've
found since they've neutered the International Lyrics Server.
With a last
name of Nolan you know I'm of Irish descent. I'm happy to report that
on 10/16/04 I relocated the Irish and
Celtic Thingies website. I lost track of
it 3-4 years ago. Glad to have it back.
Here's one more link you sadists might enjoy... the Bob Nolan
Personal Indulgence Page. If you waste
your time here, you're a true fan!!!
So far, that's it. I always plan on adding
more, but I fear this page is under perpetual construction. If you
find a link outdated, or one you think I must add, please don't
hesitate to e-mail me
Have a great year!!!
